Lofoten Islands - 7N in a fjord lodge
Lofoten definitely showed us some of the most amazing sights - enormous drying racks for fish, spectacular mountains, vibrant greenery and crystal clear waters (see our recommendations on the best road trip spots for more details). That definitely set us in the mood to kick back, relax and just enjoy a simple vacation.
We decided that we wanted a nice space all to ourselves for the next few days to fully unwind and have some downtime away from our life back in urban Singapore so we really wanted to stay in a comfy accommodation that can give us a taste of the laid back Lofoten vibes. This would also give the kids a chance to have fun and experience nature entirely, while us, parents, can relax and take a break!
With our leisurely thoughts in mind, we booked a wonderful fjord lodge from VRBO as our home base for the next 7 days here in Unstad, where the place is set between picturesque cliffs with a narrow sea inlet near it. After all, Lofoten is all about having that country getaway, away from all the bustling pace of cities. What better way to savour it than staying in a fjord lodge with a 360 view of nature around you?
Getting to the lodge was the first thing on our list after arriving at Unstad because we wanted to check in and freshen up for a bit. The moment we arrived, we immediately took a liking to the place. Our quaint little lodge might seem a little small, but given its location right next to the beach, we definitely have all the space we need for the girls’ play time.
The real treat for the eyes though, was the view at the back. Having top-to-bottom glass windows and an outdoor patio, meant that we we could admire the vast greenery right outside our lodge, with crystal clear waters winding around it. That’s definitely not all - one look up and we get a sweeping view of the breathtaking mountains, dotted with some unmelted winter snow at the peaks. Putting it all together, the view was amazing, with a beautiful natural contrast created by the mountains, waters, and fields.
Apart from the glorious view, we were excited to have other facilities like the kitchen and many comfortable lounging spots within the lodge to let us spend more precious family time together (before the girls grow up way too fast!). Not to forget the minimalistic and rustic interior with woods and hints of playful colours from the furniture that matches our mood to a tee. One of the best things here is the absence of a TV - perfect for us to disconnect from everything and really cherish the time we have here, as well as immerse ourselves in nature’s playground all around us in Lofoten.
Room tour time!
Leia and Lauren are nature lovers at heart, so being near Unstad beach was great - it’s practically like our own private beach with no rowdy crowds. Just a little piece of our sand and sky here!
Beach aside, the girls will always find new ways to have fun in nature, like plucking some grass to play make pretend as farmers for a day…
Or having their own rendition of Coachella…or should I say Couchella?
But nothing really beats the view we have at the back, where Leia and Lauren can have some fun playing by the patio.
We almost can’t bear to leave the lodge when it’s just so cosy! I mean, you really can’t blame us for being sloths when we have such a great place to relax and unwind…
The kitchen is also one of our favourite parts of the lodge! Travelling and getting to try a variety of cuisine all around the world is great, especially when Leia and Lauren are such curious eaters! However, Daddy’s home cooked meals will always be a hit with the girls (and almost always more nutritious for them too!). Thankfully, the homey little kitchen has everything we need for Daddy to whip up some delights for lazy days when we just want to stay in and enjoy the beautiful view here.
To sum it up, our time here in this private lodge was simply amazing - we got to spend time with each other and the kids had their fill of fun surrounded by nature, doing anything they want to under the sun. We’d definitely recommend families who are also looking for a cosy Lofoten experience like us to find your own dream accommodation with them!
